A growing number of communities are saying “no” to building new projects, calling into question whether current siting policies and engagement practices will be able to support the several-fold increase in clean energy needed to meet U.S. goals.

During this PowerCasts program, researchers and practitioners will explore the efficacy of where and how siting decisions are made and approaches to planning and community engagement that would best support just decision-making and accelerate clean energy deployment. Panelists will share and discuss insights from “Science of Siting,” a two-part workshop series hosted by the Clean Air Task Force (CATF), in partnership with the University of Michigan’s Graham Sustainability Institute in Fall of 2023.

This program will serve as a preview to the topics that will be discussed at ACP’s Siting and Permitting Conference. Join to get a taste of the event, and register for the conference to dive deeper into the topics covered during this PowerCasts program.

During this webinar, attendees will:

  • Gain a broader understanding on the complexity and nuance of social and institutional barriers to siting clean energy
  • Learn about the valuable interplay between social science and practice
  • Hear innovative, new ideas and approaches to policy, planning, and practice around siting clean energy

ACP Annual Market Report https://cleanpower.org/events/acp-annual-market-report/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=acp-annual-market-report Sun, 12 Nov 2023 16:45:09 +0000 https://cleanpower.org/?post_type=event&p=49740 NOTE: Attendance is free for ACP members and $149 for non-members.

2023 was a remarkable year for clean energy, and this presentation will make you the expert as to why. Join ACP CEO Jason Grumet, ACP Board Member and ENGIE’s Chief Renewables Officer David Carroll, and ACP VP of Markets and Policy Analysis John Hensley for a can’t-miss presentation of the data and trends that set 2023 apart from prior years for the U.S. clean energy market.

Over the course of the year, more new clean power capacity came online than ever before, with a surge in solar and storage additions smashing previous records for both technologies. The story was not rosy for all clean power technologies though: wind projects—both land-based and offshore—faced headwinds. High cost of capital, long permitting processes, siting constraints, and underinvestment in transmission all contributed to the slowest year for new wind installations in a decade and added uncertainty to the offshore wind outlook. Register to join this presentation for a high-level breakdown of these trends and an open Q&A session with the experts. Submit questions in advance here.

Attendees will gain the following:

  • A deep-dive into the key trends driving the industry in 2023.
  • An understanding of setbacks across land-based and offshore wind.
  • Market rankings and a market outlook through 2030.
  • An open Q&A with panelists. Questions can be submitted in advance .

Our PowerCasts program aims to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory landscape surrounding decommissioning, ensuring compliance throughout the process. From assessing potential environmental impacts to navigating financial implications, participants will gain valuable insights into the complexities of decommissioning clean energy assets.

Through engaging discussions, attendees will learn best practices for stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and fostering transparency and trust. The discussion will also cover emerging technologies and innovative approaches to optimize the decommissioning process, enhancing efficiency and minimizing disturbance of surrounding areas. Whether you are an industry professional, environmental consultant, or stakeholder involved in clean energy projects, this PowerCasts program offers invaluable knowledge and actionable insights to navigate the decommissioning process successfully.

Attendees will learn:

  1. The frameworks and requirements for the decommissioning process for utility-scale clean energy assets.
  2. Best practices for engaging stakeholders and community to ensure transparency and mitigate potential concerns.
  3. About the financial considerations and cost-effective approaches.
  4. Effective strategies for assessing and managing temporary disturbance, including land remediation and site restoration.
  5. About emerging technologies and innovative solutions for optimizing the process and minimizing disturbances.

ENGOs Offshore Wind Industry Day 101 https://cleanpower.org/events/engos-offshore-wind-industry-day-101/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=engos-offshore-wind-industry-day-101 Thu, 30 Jun 2022 16:34:14 +0000 https://cleanpower.org/?post_type=event&p=49758 For those not intimately involved with decision-making for offshore wind developers, there can be a lot of mystery around project development timelines and when decisions need to be made on project design and financing. The financial challenges facing the industry and what it takes to finance a project are also not well known.

Experts from the offshore wind industry will present on these topics and demystify the project development timelines and financing processes. This is important information as these timelines and decisions can lead to a better understanding of the choices projects make and when they may or may not have flexibility in project design and timelines to accommodate project changes. The audience will gain a better understanding of what it takes to develop an offshore wind project and when and how they can properly provide input into the development process.

During this webinar, attendees will learn:

  • Why the offshore wind industry is facing financial challenges
  • When decisions are made in the project development timeline
  • How the project development timeline syncs up with the BOEM leasing and permitting timeline
  • How projects are financed and what goes into those decisions

Speakers to be announced soon!
